The shaded area is the door opening: it is what determines what fits, not the volume. It loses little in width — 2.340 m against 2.352 m inside — but more than ten centimetres in height, 2.278 m against 2.385 m. The ISO 668 rating ceiling is not the capacity of the unit offered. Do not calculate a payload by subtracting the indicative tare from that ceiling. Obtain the actual unit's plate and specification for its tare, maximum gross mass and permitted payload, and confirm its current condition before loading or lifting.

20ft container delivery: access and offloading

Enquire about delivery to England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Coverage, lead time, transport and offloading charges depend on the postcode and site assessment. Request delivered price and confirm the full amount before agreeing to buy. Islands, remote locations and Northern Ireland may require separate transport arrangements.

Allow for a footprint of about 6.06 × 2.44 m, door opening and the proposed vehicle and lifting equipment. Ask the delivery team to assess gate width, turning space, overhead obstructions, ground bearing capacity and outrigger space. Confirm the actual unit weight and lifting points; access and crane reach cannot be approved from container dimensions alone.

What needs to be prepared on site?

One-trip or new: what is the difference?

UK suppliers commonly use ‘new’ to describe one-trip containers. We label that condition explicitly: the unit has travelled from manufacture and may have handling marks. It is different from a genuinely never-used unit. Ask for the actual unit's build and transport history and condition report.
